What to Expect in July
July is the busiest time of the year in Alaska. Everyone who has not been taught about the unpredictability of the weather thinks that it'll be the "warmest" in July. In addition, everyone who is driving up and everyone who involved in the education system (teacher or student) comes in July.
As with anywhere or anything else, supply and demand means July is the most expensive month to visit Alaska. It also means that shore excursions on the cruise portion of the trip and side trips in places like Denali National Park are probably as close to being completely full as they'll ever be.
July is the only month that we advise all of our clients to pre-book their shore excursions and flightseeing trips.
Red salmon are running strong by now and the second run of King salmon starts around the 10th or so. Halibut fishing is spectacular, as it is from late May through early September.
So, if you come in July, it will be pretty much exactly like June through the 20th of the month or so, only more crowded wherever you go. From the 20th on it's pretty much exactly like early August.
