Alaska Destinations
Fairbanks: The Golden Heart City! Fairbanks was our first home in Alaska and has a special place in our hearts. It is a community in the very best sense of the word. Fairbanksans thrive on each other and love to share their community with visitors.
A unique Alaskan city, you can see modern buildings only a few blocks from old "true Sourdough" cabins in downtown Fairbanks. Built on the shores of the Chena River at the confluence of the Chena and Tanana rivers Fairbanks has gold rush history, Trans-Alaska pipeline history, the University of Alaska Fairbanks (the main campus of the University of Alaska) and much more to offer anyone who chooses to add this lovely stop on their Alaskan vacation.
The Riverboat Discovery is a trip I've done a dozen times and would be tickled to go again tomorrow! Holland America's Gold Dredge #8 is a unique piece of Alaska history and a learning experience that turns into real fun when you pan for gold at the end of the tour! Eldorado Gold Camp is another fabulous tour where you learn about a different kind of gold mining in a very entertaining and informative manner and again get to try your luck along with the tour. The museum at the University is a must-do if at all possible.
While the Alaska Salmon Bake has always done a wonderful job, some of our favorite restaurants in Fairbanks include Gamberdella's, The Pump House and Pikes.
