Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park
Skagway is the home of another wonderful park, the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park. Commissioned in 1976 the parks job is to preserve some of the historic structures and trails of the Klondike Gold Rush. Ranger talks, hiking some of the actual trails themselves and touring the historical structures are all available. You can take a walking tour of the town site of Dyea, just a few miles from Skagway. During the height of the Gold Rush, Dyea had over 150 businesses and a population of around 40,000. By 1903 the population was down to 3 and today a rain forest is pretty much taking over the old town site. Interesting and fun.
