What to Wear on an Alaska Cruise or Cruise/Tour

MEN & WOMEN:
Think layers for the ship and outdoor Alaska.  Weather can vary.

  • A good set of silk weight, "breathable" long underwear (you might not need 'em but     you'll be glad you have 'em)
  • Turtlenecks, neck dickies or scarfs are good for keeping the neck warm
  • Medium weight casual shirts
  • A hooded sweatshirt
  • A hooded, windproof, rain jacket that "breathes"
  • Jeans and/or casual slacks
  • Light gloves or glove liners
  • Hat, cap or ear coverings
  • 2 pair of comfortable walking/tennis shoes (one pair might get wet)
  • Shorts (1-2 pair) for those warm Alaska days
  • Swim suits for the spas

MEN:

  • Tie & jacket or (if you really want to go all out) tuxedo wear for formal dining nights    (also for alternative fine dining restaurant)
  • Dress shirt, shoes, etc
  • "Smart casual" attire for other evenings

WOMEN:

  • Cocktail dress, pant suit, evening gowns for formal dining nights
(also for alternate fine dining restaurants)
  • Dress shoes, bag, etc.
  • "Smart casual" attire for other evenings

There's always the very casual exquisite buffet dining in Lido Restaurant.  24 hour room service includes opportunity to have the same fine dining menu that is served in the main dining room and it's served in courses.  Alaska has been described as "fiercely casual" and Holland America honors that.  There are lots of opportunities to eat.  As they say, "You go on as a passenger and leave as cargo."
